Legalities Of Card Counting
December 21st, 2008The Legalities Of Card Counting
Many people are a little bit uncertain about the legality of card counting in blackjack games. While many casinos would like to give you the impression that it is illegal, in most places where blackjack is played, card counting generally falls within the boundaries set by law.
What it comes down to is that card counters are simply using techniques that are available to any one else who plays blackjack. As the Nevada courts have decreed, players can use ANY information that is available to them, provided that it is not obtained by illegal means such as through a conspiracy between the player and any casino personnel. Even if a player sees the hole card held by the dealer without the dealer intentionally showing it, the player can use this information to his or her advantage legally.
While Atlantic City casinos implicitly state that card counters cannot be banned, casinos in Nevada reserve the right to disallow a player at any time for whatever reason they see fit. In more than a few instances, this reason was due to card counting. Some players have even been ejected from the casino entirely for insisting on playing even after being refused service.
